PDE alumna Leah Dowdy shares choreography to "Woman" by Ellie Goulding. Leah said she wanted to challenge herself to create a piece strictly for vertical video format. It's a great representation of all of the adaptions we have had to make as dancers, creators, and performers over the last year! Check it out here!

Before discovering Pitt Dance Ensemble at the activities fair my freshman year, I worried that I wouldn’t have the opportunity to continue dancing in college. After attending the first PDE meeting of the school year, my mind quickly changed. The members of PDE welcomed me with open arms, I suddenly had a safe space away from the rigorous courses I was taking and small dorm space I could barely move in, let alone dance in! Tuesday classes became a sort of therapy for me and my involvement in the Fall show allowed me to get to know fellow dancers. I continued to be more and more involved with PDE, eventually becoming an Executive Board member and choreographing a piece for one of the shows! Looking back at my last three years at Pitt, I couldn’t imagine my college experience without Pitt Dance Ensemble. I’ve made lifelong friends, loads of memories, all while still continuing to do something I love. Keep dancing! As the Queen sails down the Thames as part of the mass flotilla celebrating her Diamond Jubilee on Sunday (3 June), 30 dancers will be the roof of the Royal Festival Hall semaphoring her a message for the occasion – “Happy Diamond Jubilee Queen Elizabeth, We Heart You. The work has been made by Artist in Residence choreographer Lea Anderson, who was out rehearsing some of her dancers on the Southbank terraces this morning. Coincidentally, Anderson’s first full length work for her company The Cholmondeleys was called Flag and was made for Southbank Centre back in 1989. The new commission will be performed at about 3.30pm on Sunday. It is just one of many in Southbank Centre’s huge Festival of the World, which opens on Friday and will run throughout the summer, involving around 4,000 artists from 195 countries and featuring spectacular installations, art, music and literature based events. Former PDE board member, Elaine Foley is attending grad school at the Laban Institute in London and has also been cast to perform in the Olympic opening ceremonies. How exciting! Representing PDE!
